Ep 7: Data Storytelling

Our season 2 roadtrip takes a detour into a dystopian fiction world with writer Nate Mask and soundies Taka Yasuzawa and Julie Piñero as they attempt to escape the hold of the all-knowing machine…and manage to make some pretty cool art along the way.

Nate Mask is an award-winning poet, storyteller, and spoken word artist based out of Colorado, who still considers Atlanta home. He is a National Poetry Slam Group Piece champion, a Moth Story Slam winner, a multiple-time member of both the Java Monkey and Art Amok Slam Teams, and he has toured the United States and Canada as part of the duo “Nobody Likes Us But We’re Here Anyway” with fellow poet, Ryan J. Nate is an avid basketball fan, a Fresh Prince aficionado, and he loves to eat. Nate Mask Poetry on Facebook @n8mask

Taka grew up in Queens, NY, and between studying the classical violin and inhaling a steady dose of '90s Hip Hop, he developed an interest in composition and music production. After graduating from Oberlin College, he went on to work at some of the world's leading music production studios and in the music department of an advertising agency where he received an education in the business side of the music industry. In the meantime, he was developing his own music and eventually struck out on his own to form Skilled Labor Productions. He has written music for Broad City, Malcolm Gladwell's Revisionist History, Heavyweight with Jonathan Goldstein, and a host of other well-regarded properties. He is currently based in Tokyo, Japan.
